KING DAVID: Meeting Steve

OWNER OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL SAK POP ART

unnamedI was shopping on Melrose Blvd. in Los Angeles with my father when I noticed a parking lot filled with people looking at large brightly colored amazing superhero paintings scattered about the pavement – I was really impressed – very Andy Warhol. I dragged my father over to take a look and it wasn’t more than two minutes when this imposing 6’ 6”, 280+ pound guy comes over with a personality bigger than life and says “I’m Steve Kaufman”. My father thought I was wasting my time and dragged me away that day – you know how dads are looking out for their sons, but I was bitten by the Pop Art bug and thank the universe I met Steve that day. We became instant friends – and remained best friends until the day he died. My first painting that I gor from Steve was a custom original Superhero painting. I remember when Steve brought the painting over, this 5′ x 11′ extremely large Superhero Pop Art masterpiece wouldn’t even fit in the elevator.  So, Steve, went to Home Depot, bought bubbble wrap and rope and with his team, got on the roof of my building and pulled it up four stories into my place.

That was Steve Kaufman: Always bigger than life, always living for his art.
